Spend the day with your closest people – family! This route is designed to be entertaining enough for all ages. It doesn’t require a lot of physical endurance, but it does give you the chance to walk a bit where you can’t go by car. If you live in Riga or the surrounding area, it won’t take long to get to the starting point. We have diligently researched the area to be able to recommend and show you the best parking places, picnic spots, swimming areas and we have also found places that many people have not seen. We also offer some nice forest roads to make driving more fun for everyone! The “Family Ride” will be a great opportunity to forget about the everyday rush and spend time with your nearest and dearest.
Various nature trails and the proximity to the water are beautiful parts of this route that make you forget the daily rush, breathe in the fresh air of nature and take a peaceful walk with family. There are floating footpaths supported by pontoons that make you sway in harmony, elsewhere you can smell the scent of sulphurous water, continued by trail that takes you right to the seashore, proving even better the diversity of the route. Many sites and paths are located in the territory of Ķemeri National Park, which will allow you to get to know and learn more about Latvia’s natural values. There are also several bird-watching towers. At the end of the day, younger participants are likely to fall into a sweet sleep, as energy will have been spent running around and exploring new horizons…
The route initially takes you all the way back to the First World War, where strong and tough men fought in grim trenches. Today there are the remains of trenches covered in moss and trees, testimony to the battles that were fought, but back then this was a place to hide and protect yourself from the rain of bullets and gunshots. You will also see restored dugouts and passages reinforced with logs. A great opportunity to tell children about Latvia’s history with real examples, showing places that will remain in everyone’s memory and make them think about the important fights for freedom of our nation.
